He Won’t Think Less of Your Authentic Self

I was stopped at a traffic light in downtown Morehead City, NC. The light turned green, and just ahead, I saw this elderly couple crossing over the railroad tracks. I slowed down as I watched this sweet lady lead her man by the hand.

It seemed as if it was happening in slow motion. She let go in fear as the traffic was fast approaching, and his feet were shuffling. She was scared as she watched him, and I could feel her fear.

He shuffled faster with his feet, never leaving the ground when right before me, his knees started to buckle.

My kind-hearted 9-year-old boy yelled, “Mama!” I stopped the car, put it in park as the cars behind me were honking, and I caught him just as he was going down to the asphalt.

It wasn’t pretty, but we didn’t fall. My heart was pounding, and she was crying. My child was watching from the car, and my abrupt stop nearly caused a pile-up.

Here was this strong man in a weak body using every ounce of strength to take his bride to “Grumpy’s” for their “ breakfast date.”

As I drove back to Greensboro from the beach today, I couldn’t stop thinking about them. Did they get home safely? Should I have followed them home? Where was their family? Why were they alone? Will his frail body live through Christmas? What will she do without him?

There have been times in my life when I tried to do good, and it didn’t work out the way I thought. There have been times when I didn’t do the right thing when I very well knew I was wrong. I’ve let people down that I love.

I have learned something very important! God doesn’t think any less of us when things don’t go right. Actually, I think He plans on it. What He doesn’t plan is us putting a fake version out there to take the hit. Instead, He is the master artist and made an original version of us that is priceless and cost everything to create.

He asks us to share our real self for everyone to see. I believe it’s to give hope to others.

The Bible says people who are friends of God are new creations. When we accept Him in our hearts, a new original is painted.

Our infinite value, the original masterwork that we are, is placed in us because He is the master artist, not us.

He invites us to be new creations and to live a life of engagement. He doesn’t say things will go great. It’s safe to say from watching believers past and present that we will take a hit. Or two, or three. Or many.

It can’t be worse than God hanging His only Son out there for all of us!

When we take hits, and we will, God isn’t going to think less of us. Instead, He loves us even more!

That, my friends, is hope!

Oh my goodness, I pray they made it home safely.

I learned many lessons today. Selfless love is alive and real. The master has a well thought out plan for each of us.

Y’all…We are going to fall And…He won’t think any less of us!

Please share so others may have hope!
